The Companions Who Care program partners with local churches to establish teams of volunteers to provide practical, emotional and spiritual support to older adults in need of assistance. The team approach allows time flexibility for volunteers (typically 1-2 hours per month) while still providing a variety of services. Without this assistance, many older adults face losing their independence.
Love Thy Neighbor works with churches by training volunteers and helping to identify older adults in need. In addition, we act as a referral source for aging adults for resources with Monmouth County, including areas such as Medicare by offering free help to Medicare beneficiaries through a State Health Insurance Assistance (SHIA) Counselor.
In 2023, our Companions Who Care volunteers donated 168 hours of transportation to the doctor, errands, grocery shopping, preparing meals, yard maintenance, visits and prayers for many older adults. We were able to serve 60 individual Seniors.
